To the children of the modern age and beyond
By Alan Baylis
I have been born into a nightmare. When parents chase money then
their children will copy. Their children will lie, cheat and steal
for money. Their daughters shall prostitute themselves for money.
Their sons shall kill and be killed for money; and ultimately their
countries will go to war for money. I hereby give warning to anyone
who believes that the quest for riches is the goal in life. I advise
them to sell their diamonds and give to those in need, because I
shall continually say that they are no more than stones and should
be valued as such. Do not convert your diamonds to gold or pearls
and the like because people will learn that these have no intrinsic
value. Do not convert these to money unless it is to be charitable.
When the people see that an excess of money does not bring happiness
or prestige it will debase those that use it as a status symbol. Do
not invest in land because I shall continually say that the Earth
belongs equally to everyone born on it, regardless of who holds the
title. Do not invest in business because work is only a means to an
end and I know that the people would do better to spend their days
growing their own food and becoming self-sufficient rather than
indebting themselves for the majority of their life. When the value
of money crashes, who in a large city of millions is going to have
enough money to eat?
The bitter pill for the excessively rich to swallow is that everyone
is equal or should act equal and should only expect an equal share.
For it was King Solomon who said "Go to the ant, thou sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or
ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in
the harvest." and it is the monetarily powerful within our societies
that remind us of the failure of the communist system to divert us
from entertaining such ideas, without reminding us that it was the
hypocrisy of greed that ended an otherwise workable system. The same
will happen with capitalism and any other system, no matter how
articulated the laws may be, if the people are taught
competitiveness.
There may be only two things in this world that people can safely
over indulge in. The first is charity, although making yourself a
charity case is no solution either. The second is the pursuit of
knowledge. We use our acquired knowledge to comprehend the world and
then make our choices. The greater our awareness the better our
choices become. It is for this reason that the first act of a
dictator is to have a book burning and eliminate the intellectuals.
But if you believe your greater knowledge makes you a more important
person than anyone else then you have simply become vain and proud
with another commodity.
To find knowledge, read the Bible.
